Random Updates Post

1. Daisy is in her big girl bed right now, reading to herself and not napping. Hmmm. I am not quite sure what to do. She definitely still needs naps and becomes outrageously cranky by dinnertime if she hasn't had one. But we obviously can't force her to go to sleep. So this may end up being "quiet time," even though it's not very quiet-- I can hear her reading emphatically to herself.

2. Daisy will be three this month. I can hardly believe it.

3. Synesthesia update: today in the car, Daisy was talking about a song "that starts out pink and then gets yellow." She always says this about this particular song. Mark was with us when the song played and she said that, and he pointed out that the song changes keys right when Daisy says that. ???? Could it be? I, of course, would love to think that Daisy has some innate musicality by which she senses key changes, and on top of that has this synesthesia gift where she sees colors with particular keys... that would be cool. But it seems too early to declare it. (Also cute: we saw a kite flying at the beach as we were driving and she said, "That kite is glorious!")

Sophie is napping right now, but had a 5 day nap strike this week. She has gone through many bouts of nap resistance in her life, but never more than 2 consecutive days before. So it must be the beginning of giving up nap, but like Daisy, she really still needs it. She isn't always cranky -- can be -- but sometimes she just gets really silly/dingy like she is high. It can be funny, but then she'll fall or get frustrated and she totally melts. She has much less resilience when she doesn't nap. But as I type she has been asleep for 2 hours already. I remember when she went from 2 naps to one, it was a long, gradual, bumpy process. I think that is where we are. sigh.

Ahh, interesting, Margo... one of my fears is that if Daisy goes something like 5 days without a nap, that'll mean she's done altogether. So it is good to hear that Sophie has gone back to napping, even if this is the beginning of the stopping process! Yesterday ended up being no nap at all, and it's now been several days in a row. I'm a little worried, but we'll see what happens! (I'd be fine with it, really, if only she were still in a decent mood by the end of the day!)

I don't think it's too early to declare it. This is WAY fucking cool.
