Now I'm just getting carried away...

What I find interesting is that the band exists no matter who the members are (and can exist in multiples)--this is especially true when made up. The band will were "masks" that makes them take on the persona of the orignal band and their individuality is muted. The goal is the full expression of that "corny song" or the performance in general. However, I think there is a difference in tribute bands and cover bands--in one, there is a pure celebration of one band and in another, most likely it is a celebration of one or two generations. Plus, I would think that original interpretations of songs would be a no-no in tribute bands, but quite possible in a cover band? Bring in karaoke into this whole mix, and you have much more food for thought. I totally understand the bar scene grating on one's nerves/soul. I think I was very naive in until I was exposed to the underbelly of night-life. Keep writing about this all--it is interesting!

Yes--exactly. That is part of the genius of the KISS phenomenon, don't you think? Theoretically, it can live forever, with new members taking on the roles and putting on the makeup/masks. Yes, tribute bands and cover bands are a little different...maybe a lot different, depending on the level of commitment of the tribute band to bringing the "original" experience faithfully to life.
