She's here!

Official blog birth announcement:

Daisy Susannah Meritt, born at 8:37 PM on Thursday, July 20, weighing 7 pounds, 7 oz, and measuring 20 inches long.

She weighed only 7 pounds when they discharged her. The weight loss is nerve-wracking but normal, I suppose.

So, as it turns out, I was wrong: newborn babies are not strange little pickled aliens with out-of-control facial muscles. They are, I now see, perfect, extremely beautiful, and utterly accurate reflections of their parents' splendidness. I can't believe I was so blind before! I have seen the light.

I simply can't stop smiling. Seriously, I've walked around all day with the goofiest grin on my face. I'm just thrilled. She's gorgeous, and I'm so happy and so proud of you and ... YAY! :o)

I'm not a blogger, but I can't hold back. Oh my. She is gorgeous! And yes, all babies are wonderful, but not all are beautiful. Her fingers! Her hair! Her mouth! She's exquisite. Welcome Daisy. Brava Sarah and Mark. You are sooo good at this.

She is so delicate--put more pictures up! I can't get enough. From Mark's blog, I saw that you had to have a c-section...I guess we are c-section buddies now, although you were in labor a little bit? I know you probably don't have time to write back to everyone individually right now, but I can't wait to be back in email touch again. One more question, when you have time: how are the cats adjusting...

Sarah and Mark, job well done. Right on schedule. Some newborns *are* pickled aliens with spastic faces. Your baby just happens to be a gorgeous rock star, the perfect combo of her parents' traits.

PS
To those who live nearby, please come visit if you are so inclined! I am not getting out of the house so much and I like seeing people (and so does Daisy). Mom is rocking her to sleep right now--we've decided she likes Hebrew songs the best.
